No ceasefire in Gaza but allowing for humanitarian pauses: Israel's military spokesperson
Hamas has lost control of northern Gaza as thousands of residents have moved south, Israel's military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a televised briefing on Wednesday.
"We saw 50,000 Gazans move from the northern Gaza Strip to the south. They are moving because they understand that Hamas has lost control in the north," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said. "Hamas has lost control and is continuing to lose control in the north."
Hagari added that there would be no ceasefire but Israel has been allowing for humanitarian pauses at specific times to allow for residents to relocate south.
Three pro-Iran fighters were killed in Israeli air strikes on Wednesday near Damascus by the powerful Lebanese Hezbollah militia, according to a war monitor.
“Three non-Syrian pro-Iran fighters were killed in Israeli strikes on farms and other sites belonging to Hezbollah near Akraba and Sayyida Zeinab,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor.
With the conflict now in its second month, UN authorities increased their calls for a humanitarian cease-fire to assist alleviate the suffering in Gaza, where buildings have been destroyed and essential supplies are running low.
According to Palestinian sources, over 10,000 people have been killed, with 40 per cent of them being children. Israel bombarded Gaza in retaliation for a Hamas raid on southern Israel on October 7, in which militants killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped another 240 more.
