Israel strikes hit near Damascus: Syrian state media

Early on Friday, Israeli airstrikes near Damascus, the capital of Syria, caused material damage, according to a report from the Syrian official news agency.

As regional tensions over the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip continue to boil, Israel has struck Syria many times in recent weeks.

"At around 02:25 am (0025 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights targeting several positions in the vicinity of Damascus," state news agency SANA said, citing a military source.

Blinken asks Israel for 'urgent' action against settler violence

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday called on Israel to take "urgent" action to stop settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.

Blinken, in San Francisco for an Asia-Pacific summit, made the plea in a telephone call with Benny Gantz, an opposition leader who joined Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wartime cabinet.

Blinken "stressed the urgent need for affirmative steps to de-escalate tensions in the West Bank, including by confronting rising levels of settler extremist violence," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.

Because Palestinians in Gaza lack access to clean water, waterborne infectious illnesses like cholera and typhoid may soon begin to spread throughout the region, Human Rights Watch said on Thursday.

“Immediate possibility of starvation”: World Food Programme

The food supply in Gaza has collapsed under Israel's siege, and not enough food is arriving from Egypt, prompting the U.N. World Food Programme to warn of "the immediate possibility of starvation" in the region.

Less than 7% of the population's daily caloric needs are met by the 447 trucks that have transported food into Gaza from Egypt, out of 1,129 relief trucks that have arrived since October 21, according to the World Food Programme. Fuel shortages forced the closure of the majority of bakeries, and the food supply chains broke, leaving bread "scarce or non-existent," the report claimed.

Netanyahu admits Israel ‘not successful’ in bid to minimise Gaza civilian casualties

While Israel fights Hamas in Gaza, it is making every effort to keep civilians out of harm's way, including distributing flyers advising them to evacuate. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that Israel's efforts to reduce the number of deaths were "not successful."

A television station questioned Netanyahu on whether Israel's murder of Palestinians will incite hatred in the hearts and minds of future generations.

While Israel fights Hamas in Gaza, it is making every effort to keep civilians out of harm’s way, including distributing flyers advising them to evacuate. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that Israel’s efforts to reduce the number of deaths were “not successful.”

A television station questioned Mr. Netanyahu on whether Israel’s murder of Palestinians will incite hatred in the hearts and minds of future generations.

“Any civilian death is a tragedy. And we shouldn’t have any because we’re doing everything we can to get the civilians out of harm’s way, while Hamas is doing everything to keep them in harm’s way. So we send leaflets, (we) call them on their cell phones, and we say: ‘leave’. And many have left,” Mr. Netanyahu said.

“The other thing that I can say is that we’ll try to finish that job with minimal civilian casualties. That’s what we’re trying to do: minimal civilian casualties. But unfortunately, we’re not successful.”
