Iran has warned that allied terrorists such as Houthi rebels in Yemen could expand their operations against Israel.
“The warnings from Iran regarding the initial days of the Gaza civilian casualties highlighted a concern: if these atrocities were not halted, they could incite public outrage and exhaust the patience of the resistance movements,” a report by AP quoted from the statement Iran’s mission to the UN.
“These concerns can be averted and the responsibility lies squarely in the hands of the American administration to halt the transgressions perpetuated by the Israeli regime,” the statement further added.
Iran’s warning came within hours after Houthis Tuesday claimed responsibility for a missile fired at Eilat which the Israeli military had shot down.
Hours later, the Israel Defense Forces announced that it again intercepted an “aerial threat” near Eilat.
The Houthis had been suspected of an attack earlier in October targeting Israel by sending missiles and drones over the crucial shipping lane of the Red Sea.
On Tuesday, Israeli forces said its own fighter jets and its new Arrow missile defense system shot down two salvos of incoming fire hours apart as it approached the country’s key Red Sea shipping port of Eilat.
Houthis, who have held Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, since 2014 as part of that country’s ruinous war, later on Tuesday claimed three attacks on Israel, without elaborating on the timeframe of the operations and whether Tuesday’s salvos represented one or two attacks.
