NIA identifies 15 people via CCTV involved in Indian High Commission violence in UK, to issue Look Out Circular
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has identified 15 out of 45 people who were allegedly involved in attacking the Indian Embassy in London during a protest on March 19, two months after it released photos of all the accused.
The investigative body will send the details of the accused to the immigration department following which a Look Out Circular (LOC) will be issued against them.
Similarly, the NIA has identified the pro-Khalistani people who allegedly attacked the Indian High Commission in San Francisco on July 2. Apart from this, a team will also visit Canada next month to investigate anti-India activities there.
The development comes just a day after a Canadian militant group threatened to “shut down” the Indian Embassy in Ottawa and demanded High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma return to India.
NIA probes attack on Indian Embassy in London
After the March attack on the Indian High Commission in London, India summoned the British deputy high commissioner and demanded an explanation over the complete “absence of security” after videos of pulling down of the Indian flag at the Indian mission in London during a protest by pro-Khalistan elements emerged on social media.
In a strongly-worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India finds “unacceptable” the indifference of the UK government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK.
Meanwhile, in April the Union Ministry of Home Affairs directed the NIA to register a case after a preliminary investigation revealed that the attacks might have a connection with Pakistan’s ISI.
In May, an NIA team went to the UK to collect evidence following which they published five videos of the incident seeking help from the public to identify the suspects.
NIA probes attack on Indian Embassy in Canada
In June, the Delhi Police said that the NIA will investigate the Khalistani elements’ attacks on Indian High Commission in Canada.
The Delhi Police Special Cell filed FIRs under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in relation to the March 2023 attack in Canada and San Francisco (US). According to Delhi Police sources, the matter was handed to the NIA.
